The Poetry of David D Jerald

Fire flying burning through the sky .. The kind we wish upon and why .. These humble words it does inspire. God may be our father .. But our Mother is the fire.

David D Jerald
Tucson, Arizona, United States
I was Born November 20th in the State of Washington, USA on the banks of the Snake river. My Dad was in the Military and I grew up in South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Washington, California, and Arizona. I learned good things and bad things traveling from one school to the next. Making friends was a hard thing because it hurt to much when you left them behind. I learned to read the heck out of a road map. I loved military history and poetry. I worked in a cement plant for 30 years before retiring in 2004. The poets that inspire me the most are Sara Teasdale, Alfred Lord Tennyson and Ella Wheeler Wilcox. You can e-mail me at iamthewarriorpoet@gmail.com

The Quill and the Sword

The above is is my poetry Emblem designed by me "David D Jerald" this is my humble opinion of what it means to me.
The rough Latin saying "nosce te ipsum" on my emblem roughly means "know thy self"

The Quill is an Eagle Feather dipped in a small bottle of ink which as you know is the old way of writing by using the quill. The small bottle of ink that it is dipped in symbolizes to me the blood of the poet but not just the blood of one poet but of all poets. Its from this blood his words flow. But the quill to me is no ordinary feather. It
is an eagle feather.
In Native American Tradition the eagle's feather represents wisdom, and spiritual power. The eagle is the messenger between the great spirit ( God ) and man. It is a sign of spiritual wisdom from which your life power is drawn. The eagle fly's high and can see for a great distance. The eagle sees what man cannot. So I the poet look through his eyes to find the wisdom and the right words to express my true feelings.

The sword is the symbol of truth, justice and honor. It can give life or take it. The sword can outlast its owner and so symbolizes immortality. The immortality of the poets words. The swords purpose is to cut and kill. It is said that the pen is mightier than the sword but there are times when sadly words fail. It is the swords duty as last resort to uphold the truth and bring about a swift justice to quell the evil that walks in our midst. It is a sign of spiritual excellence the search for the meaning of life and death.

In India the sword represents the severance of the illusionary world from the ultimately real world. The cut itself is the key to spiritual enlightment. The great nineteenth-century Japanese swordsman Yamaoka Tesshu spoke of the true sword as being the sword of the mind its sole purpose not to kill but to defeat ones mind.

The Quill and sword is the symbol of the WarriorPoet.
